In 2004, NASCAR driver Robby Gordon decided to leave legendary team, Richard Childress Racing, to drive for a new team operated and owned by himself; Robby Gordon Motorsports. He fielded the #55 Chevrolet for himself and the #7 Chevrolet between 2005 and 2011, switching manufacturers over the years. The team won 1 race - at Richmond in 2004.
Robby Gordon supposedly won his team's second Cup race in the 2007 Busch Series race in Montreal. But NASCAR ruled that Gordon had intentionally wrecked a young Australian, Marcos Ambrose, to finish first. They penalized him 2 laps and he placed 18th. Robby Gordon's best finish as an owner-driver is 2nd, twice, at Watkins Glen in 2005 and Sonoma in 2010. Robby Gordon departed NASCAR in 2012 and closed up his team.
